Introduction to RAID 5
RAID originally stood for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (and has nothing to do with raiding anybody) which was first conceived at the University of California at Berkeley in the late 1980s.
Nowadays its more general in meaning and refers to computer storage schemes with RAID 5 is where data striping is carried out on multiple disks.
What distinguishes it from other is that #5 offers best cost and superb high performance. Data protection is optimal and even though its slower than #0 and #1 — it performs on a much higher scale.
